Big Wave Eats is the result of founder Chris Federico’s desire to cook delicious food and share with others. Born into an Italian-American family who puts eating before breathing and sleeping, Chris was motivated by family gatherings and the fun, memories, and meals shared. Whether it was a holiday party, birthday, graduation, or simply a summer BBQ, one thing remained the same - there was always an abundance of mouthwatering homemade dishes. What made these dishes different? They were handcrafted with lots of good, savory, simple ingredients. Most importantly, they were made with love!
Throughout the years as Chris got older, he became hooked on the flavors and intrigued with the cooking process. He helped wherever he could during family parties and that didn’t go unnoticed by his dad, John. When dinner was being made at home, John started delegating responsibilities to Chris while teaching him all he knew along the way. Chris started putting his own twist on things and soon enough, flipping the steak when John would yell from inside to do so turned into grilling multi-course meals for the whole family during parties and gatherings.
Chris continued learning and applying his acquired cooking skills as he went to college, breaking away from the common Easy Mac, Hot Pockets, and Ramen diet (despite a few 2am late night Wendy’s runs every once in a while) sticking true to simple, delicious ingredients. After graduating, Chris headed to North Carolina for work before moving back to NJ which only strengthened his repertoire with the addition of southern style techniques. Residing in Belmar since moving home has given Chris the time to perfect his favorite meals while working, surfing with friends, and enjoying all the beach has to offer. He knew he had to share his love for cooking and the delicious mix of flavors with his friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers. Word spread quick and demand for meals grew even quicker. With fresh herbs growing out on the balcony of Chris’s apartment, a case of to go containers from Restaurant Depot, and a handful of logo design labels, Big Wave Eats was in business!
